The ‘Ode to Freedom’ collection is inspired by my grandfather’s legacy. He was a talented woodcarver whose art remained confined due to war and communism. Decades later, I have revived his patterns and transformed into hand-block printed textiles, allowing his dream to journey across the world.

The ‘Ode to Freedom’ collection is a limited-edition series, handcrafted in small batches to ensure exceptional quality and uniqueness. The featured pattern, Dream Compass, will be produced in just 200 pieces per colour way (red and blue). Each cushion is individually numbered, making it a truly one-of-a-kind item to own and cherish.

Ajrakh is a centuries-old block printing technique that uses hand-carved wooden blocks to create intricate geometric patterns on fabric with natural dyes. This traditional art form has been practiced for generations, and the Ajrakhs in our collection are crafted by the Khatri family, who have been perfecting this technique for over nine generations in the Kachchh desert of Gujarat, India. The process is highly detailed, involving between thirteen and twenty steps, including scouring, washing, printing, dyeing, and final rinsing, often taking up to three weeks to complete.

Since Ajrakh printing is entirely handmade, no two pieces are ever identical. Unlike machine-made fabrics that strive for absolute precision, Ajrakh textiles embrace the beauty of human craftsmanship. Slight variations in pattern or color are not imperfections but rather a mark of authenticity, making each piece truly unique. These subtle differences add to the charm and character of the textile, celebrating the artisan’s skill and dedication.

Caring for naturally dyed garments is a little different than caring for conventionally dyed garments. It’s easy and will become routine – you just have to be selective with the soap you use and pay attention to the fabric.

To protect the natural dyes, it is important to use a pH neutral liquid detergent.  Long exposure to direct sunlight will affect the natural dyes over time. If you line dry, we recommend doing so in the shade.

Recommended detergents: Sonnet, Eucalan, Tru Earth or a mild liquid detergent no higher than pH 7. Always dissolve soap fully before adding garments to wash.

• Gentle wash by hand with cool water. 
• Use neutral soap or detergent.
• Turn garments inside-out, and wash with similar colours.
• Wash indigo with dark colors.
• Tumble dry on medium heat or hang to dry.
